The weather teased us horribly for Markbeech’s annual garden open day. Fine until just after the gardens opened at 2.00pm the heavens then let us have it with torrential rain until 4.00pm so most of the visits took place in the last hour. It meant that the teas which were undercover in Anne Swatland’s garden at Friendly Green did well and those who gathered for a drink at Edells at the end of the day enjoyed the best of the weather. Nevertheless the gardens were all beautiful and it was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the different ways in which people use our heavy wealden clay to spectacular effect.
Congratulations and thanks to all the gardeners: The Dickins family, Jane and John Gladstone, Margaret Reynolds, Joanna and Alan Smith, Anne Swatland, Sue Theobald
