Intercessions 14 January Nicki Talbot

Almighty God,  We have come together today to praise and give thanks; to sing hymns and psalms and to pray for our gratefulness, as well as for our needs and hopes.  We ask you to help us quieten our minds for a short while to feel your presence with us here in this peaceful place.  This church was built for our small community to meet and worship.  We are the inheritors of this place and we pray for guidance about the future of our church.  Help us to have open minds, to remain non judgemental and alert to new transforming possibilities.

Lord in your mercy

Open our eyes, Lord, to the loveliness and beauty of this world which you have created.  Teach us to revere the bounty of the earth, the sky and the sea, that we may never use anything you have given us for wrong purposes. We ask you to help allow ourselves time to sit and stare; to enjoy the first stirrings of spring; the perfection of a tiny baby’s hand; a game with children or a walk with the dog and in so doing to feel your presence within us.

Lord in your mercy

Loving Father, pour out your Holy Spirit on all those whose lives are drawing to a close.  We pray particularly for Rebecca Linden that she may feel your loving hand and keep her from pain and suffering at the end of her earthly life.  We pray too for her parents, Jill and Len in their sadness.  Help us as a community, Lord, to endeavour to find the right words and offer the right help to make a difference.  Let us take a moment to pray for the Lindens and to bring any others close to us who are in need to mind …

Lord in your mercy

Dear Lord, we give thanks for all people who devote their lives to the care of others.  We give thanks for young people training to become doctors and nurses; for our GPs struggling to give their patients the time they need and for our hospital doctors coping with an impossible work load.  We pray Lord for guidance for the future of our Health Service.

Lord in your mercy

Holy Spirit of God, plant in us your self-giving, transforming love.  We thank you for the love you show us; for Wendy who ministers to us so faithfully,  and for the family, friends and strangers you lend us to love as we walk through life.  We bring to mind those we love but see no longer.  Grant us a real and spiritual sense of continuing unity being bound together in the love of Christ.  Deepen and increase in us that love and touch our hearts with gratitude for all the blessings you shower upon us.

Merciful Father accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen
