Building the church

After the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost 3,000 people turned to Christ. The new formed church grew quickly. It is described in a way that can be summarized in the infographic above. The new followers of Jesus didn’t just attend church – they were church!

IN

The church ‘devoted themselves to the apostles teaching… and fellowship’

Discipleship is about following Jesus and learning more about Him. We read about him and his teachings in the Bible; so how might we devote ourselves?

Fellowship and eating together was another feature; how might we exercise hospitality towards all in the church and beyond?

UP

They also devoted themselves to ‘breaking bread’, which we can take to be the communion – so worship and prayer. Our worship is central to who we are as Christians and prayer is our communication with God. How can worship, celebration and prayer become part of our daily lives and not just something for the occasional Sunday?

OUT

Archbishop William Temple said: The Church exists primarily for the sake of those who are still outside it. How might that impact our approach to our life as church? How do we feel about serving the community, giving generously and sharing our faith to those outside the church?
